About Ascham

Ascham is an outdoor archery club, based in east London/Essex borders. We pride ourselves on providing a friendly and welcoming environment for archers of all skill levels to practice and enjoy the sport.

Founded in 1942, Ascham has a long history of outdoor archery all year round in east London and has helped many archers begin their journey over the years, with a number of fully qualified Archery GB coaches as members.

We have just moved to a new ground, at South Woodford Cricket and Sports Club where we shoot on Sunday mornings. We plan to offer taster sessions and full courses in the spring.

What we offer

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to learn archery?

2 hour taster session:

Adult: £15

Child: £10

Full beginners' course (six 2 hour sessions):

Adult: £80

Child: £60

All equipment will be provided for the course, at no additional cost.

What equipment do I need to start archery?

We provide all necessary equipment for our beginner courses, including bows, arrows, and shooting accessories. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

At your first session, we'll fit you for size with an appropriate training bow and set of arrows, and we'll provide these at each session.

Once you've completed your beginner's course and decide to continue with archery we can lend you club items, and advise on buying your own archery kit.

What should I wear?

Having fun while being safe is our top priority at Ascham. To ensure you get the best experience, we ask that you follow these instructions regarding clothing and accessories.

Clothing: comfortable, non-restrictive, reasonably close-fitting clothes (no dangling laces or baggy tops), suitable for the weather.

Shoes: shoes must fully cover the foot (no holes!)

Hair: long hair should be tied back. Hijabs should be secured to be close-fitting.

Piercings: for your safety any facial piercings such as nose, lip and chin studs, bars or rings must be removed before shooting. Likewise, we'll ask you to remove any piercings on the front of your body before attending. Earrings are ok as long as they are small and not dangly.

If in doubt, just ask!

Can beginners join the club?

We encourage beginners to apply for membership after completing the six session course. We also welcome people joining from other clubs as members and as session guests.

Do you teach children?

Yes! Children must be at least 9 years old in order to learn archery, and if you're bringing children under 14, we ask that you please stay for the duration of each session.
